“Turn on, tune in, and drop out.” – Timothy Leary
“All The works of man have their origin in creative fantasy. What right have we then to depreciate imagination.” – Carl Jung
In the tradition of the psychedelic visionaries of the 1960′s along with rebellion from post-modern conceptualism, emerges a group of artists returning to a craft orientated process of material embellished artworks in celebration of fantasy. California Fantasy is a vivid mirage pieced together through the works of California connected artists Lola Rose Thompson, Elena Stonaker, Meagan Boyd, Peter Makela, Meegan Barnes, Raul de Nieves, and Mymo. Each artist brings to life the myth, sparkle, and sensuality that exist withing the California environs. These strong figurative works evoke feelings of psychedelia and euphoria with and aim to awaken a perceived Californian paradise as manifested through vibrant paintings, ethereal drawings, and transcendental sculptures.
Choosing fantasy over reality may be a simple escape, but perhaps this work acts as invitation to explore each artist’s inner utopia informed and inspired by the West Coast and their own perceived vision of fantasy.
