Cosmas Y Damian Brown melds death, surrealist motifs, and the cosmic to the forefront of his practice, using painting, sculpture and printmaking. Given his name, Cosmas Y Damian, he embodies layers of mysticism, not only in his life but in each work he creates. His lore is not only his own, but stems form his cultural surroundings in Oaxaca, Mexico City, and Los Angeles. His medium is as unique as his imagination, utilizing resin, found objects, leather, painting, drawing and more. He leaves no metaphorical stone untouched and has overlaid an abundance of dreamscapes to create his own distinctive mindscapes. From skulls, to stones, to spiders, to cars, each semiotic detail Brown implements provides a sense of grounding amidst the unconscious realm he paints. He swings the pendulum from the dream plane to the earth, playing a psychological game with symbolism.
