Los Angeles established contemporary art gallery, New Image Art is pleased to present the much anticipated solo exhibition of Australian based adventure painter Anthony Lister. His first solo exhibition in the United States since 2012, Lister returns to California with just as much vigor and enthusiasm as his first renegade stateside visit years ago. Known for a fierce painting style akin to action painters of the neo-expressionist era, Anthony attacks both canvas and wall alike with a fervor and sensitivity that exposes layers of movement and emotion. His continued focus on distinct character driven mixed media paintings and a new found invigoration for Los Angeles’ cultural ephemera, finds Lister further exploring the depths of his self envisioned contemporary mythology. Drawing from super hero comics, mass media ephemera, and intrinsic art history influences, Lister communicates a sincere voice from the street and translates that language into an authentic viewpoint within the gallery setting. Titled, MAD PROPS STREET CRED, this exhibition considers the role of villain vs hero and questions how that inevitably plays out in modern society be it personal expression in the streets or mainstream media’s embellished contextual perspective.
