Souther Salazar, Saelee Oh and Caroline Hwang pool their talents once again, this time further exploring the purity and imbalance of the natural world in collaborative, large scale installations in "Up the Spout". |
| Souther Salazar's work includes graphite, acrylic, and paper collage on wood as well as sculpture in wood, clay, and found materials. His densely layered work presents adult struggles and childhood memories in a reckless assemblage of patterns. His work celebrates the forgotten details and the delicate balance between purpose and accident. His work has appeared in Kramer's Ergot, Swindle Quarterly, The Drama, Kitchen Sink magazine and on the cover of an upcoming issue of Giant Robot magazine |
Saelee Oh's work is inspired by folk art, textiles and old children's books. With acrylics, watercolors, paper cut-outs and dried leaves and flowers, she explores visual storytelling and animal imagery as symbols and metaphors. This show will feature her largest paper cut-outs yet. Her work has appeared in Swindle Quarterly, Bust, Giant Robot, The Drama and Communication Arts. Saelee graduated from the Art Center College of Design in 2003 and has shown her work internationally. |
Caroline Hwang continues to explore quilting themes and motifs with the use of appliqué, actual quilting and quilting designs. She uses the concept of the comfort of quilts, embroidery to play off of the emotional themes depicted in the work with further explorations of ink drawings on paper with delicate hand stitching. She explores the different disguises people wear, the trials and tribulations of relationships and the search for hope. She has been featured in Paper magazine and Swindle Quarterly and done illustrations for Bust and The New York Times. Her work is currently on the cover of HOW magazine. |

Suzannah Sinclair will be showing her sensual, autobiographical 70s-style paintings in the project space. Many of her female figures are lifted from 1960 Playboys and combined with rainbow patterns reminiscent of 1970's disco, wallpaper motifs. Her work is painted on wood stained panels and at times contain a vapid painful yet sensual emotion. |
