Puddle Jumpers: An introduction to three emerging LA artists. Caroline Hwang, Saelee Oh, and Souther Salazar have worked closely together as friends and collaborators over the past few years, each creating unique new approaches to narrative and illustrative image-making. Hwang's carefully stitched and silkscreened fabric pieces tell modern tales of awkward girls using traditional craft techniques and folk imagery. Oh's delicate cutouts invite closer observation through trapped paper layers to find playful glimpses of creatures from nature and life--both real or imagined. Salazar's explosive/explorative installation layers collages, drawings, and paintings with a childlike sense of invention and wonder that welcomes all passerbys. In the midst of these troubled times, the Puddle Jumpers show will serve to jumpstart some weary hearts.
